1040 Form and Instructions in 1913, Only 4 Pages

The very first 1040 Federal Income Tax form from 1913 appears above (click to enlarge). Notice that:

1. Taxes were only paid on income above $20,000, equivalent to $407,000 in today's dollars, at the initial rate of only 1%. (Correction: Income taxes in 1913 were actually assessed on income above the personal exemption of $3,000, equivalent to $61,000 today).

2. The highest marginal tax rate in 1913 was 6%, which applied to income above $500,000, equivalent in today's dollars to about $10 million.

The entire 1040 tax form in 1913, including all forms and instructions, was only 4 pages, click here to view. All instructions in 1913 were contained on a single page, compared to the 2006 1040 Instructions, which run 143 pages long, without any forms.

This looks like a reproduction of the first 1040 form, not the original. The image presented here makes liberal use of the Helvetica font which wasn't designed until 1957.

I was just about to say the same thing. This is a fake. Times Roman was released in 1932. Helvetica was released in 1957.

As the form appears on the IRS web-site, does it really matter that it is a facsimile?

Note: This might be a reproduction, but I don't think it can be called a "fake," since it is taken directly from the IRS website.

Ummm... line 7 of the form appears to contradict your first point (i.e. you have to pay 1% tax on your first $20,000).

The form was put into a pdf file in text to save space. Therefore, the font is going to be one native to PDF files, of which the IRS font of 1913 is probably not included.

Section 861 does a better job of explaining the history...

The so called income Tax is still an illegally passed tax by NOT 2/3 of the US States in our Republic at the time . The Attorney General passed it by signing it into law (Illegally) and the US Sates never passed it by the required 2/3's Majority Vote.

The US Supreme Court ruled only a few years ago people could be consciencious objectors and thusly not pay the (Illegal Tax)

Does anyone remember in US History Elected American US PRESIDENT Percy Darth Amboy?

Are we legally required to use U.S. currency in our financial transactions?

If we instead trade using barter or foreign currency, do we still have to proclaim that on our income tax forms?

FIA, try not paying your taxes. See how legal your "conscientious objection" is. Or are you conscientiously objecting to intelligence?

FIA, I think you meant "Roger Darcy Amboy," A fictional president (of the Niblicker Party) created by writer Andrew Ward.

yeah duly noted also in that same time frame there were only about one hundred murders in the whole country including the wild wild west, without gun control or widespread police law enforcement efforts . i guess we were just a kinder gentler society

Hardly kinder or gentler. Evil doers knew that their prey could likely respond with deadly force.

Im sure blacks in the Jim Crow South thought Americans were kind and gentle.

Hello,

Detroit would like to know of a source for this form and we'd be happy to plaster it all over the country! We "digged" it, we tend to agree that the FITT for a human being's labor is a hoax. We know this may be a "honey pot." We're not accusing you of anything but just asking about tyranny since you seem to know about things around town and state. Have you ever seen America: From Freedom to Fascism. If so, can you dispute anything within the film. Anything you have to offer will be appreciated. Thank you.

Peace from Stacy at DSP and DSPEG

Sorry. Please take the "From" out of America: From Freedom to Fascism. It's actually, and I've been made a fool already so don't start! :) :

"America: Freedom to Fascism"

Peace and thanks again,

It could be the original, it's not Helvetica, it's slightly different

It's closer to Akzidenz-Grotesk than Helvetica which is the font Helvetica was first based off of
